Well its been a little while!

We’ve had a big 6 months at Allen Legal.  Our move from Surry Hills to the City has been highly successful – a shout out to the team at Fishburners who have warmly welcomed us into the community.  It is fantastic to be right in the heart of Australia’s tech start up scene; to share more closely the startup experience and be able interact daily with a large number of clients.

As a consequence of our move the Allen Legal team has expanded quite significantly over the past few months.  Senior IP Lawyer Peter Lightbody joined us in April.  Prior to Allen Legal, Peter was IP Counsel for NICTA for 11 years before taking the same role at high growth technology startup Metamako.

Peter has been developing our expertise around data protection and privacy in light of the recent introduction of the GDPR. To assist in this area we have also brought in data protection specialist Rob Hamper to act as a consultant in this area.  Peter has been presenting on GDPR and IP Management to the Fishburners community in both Sydney and Brisbane over the past couple of months.  If you need any help in this area, Peter would be gad to take your call.

We have also added another Allen to the business.  Annabelle Allen has joined on a part time basis to assist with on-boarding our clients onto our Company Secretarial platform, Company Box.  The platform removes the requirement for a paper based Company Register and integrates with ASIC directly to manage company updates and renewals.  If you are interested in using transferring your Company Register to Company Box, Annabelle can be contacted at [email protected].

Finally in Sydney, we have also recruited a new intern Liam Dunshea as a legal intern.  Liam is currently with us one day a week to compliment his UNSW degree in Finance and Law.

In addition to our Sydney expansion, we have also enhanced our presence in Brisbane with the addition of Paul Napier as a Consultant.  Paul has both in-house and law firm experience and brings expertise in the merger & acquisition space as well as providing on the ground support to members of Fishburners Brisbane.  Paul also provides a virtual in-house legal service for his clients.
